Topography of North-East India have varied Diversities-

Understandably the Brahmaputra valley is also encircled by the continuous hill chain of the Garo. Further Khasi-Jaintia, Dimasa, Karbi, Naga, Arunachal and Bhutan hills. The KhasiJaintia and the North Cachar hills stand between the valleys of Brahmaputra and the Barak-Surma.

In fact the Barak-Surma valley-Tripura plains area is also bounded on three sides by the Khasi-Jaintia hills. Further more it extents North Cachar hills, the hills of Manipur, the Mizo hills and the hills of Tripura. Most importantly it is bordered by the plains districts of eastern Bengal. Understandingly the unbroken segment of the sub-Himalayan mountain chain forming the hills division of the region. In fact it commences from the western slopes of the Garo hills. Finally followed by Khasi-Jaintia and the North Cachar (Dimasa) hills. And thereafter, the Karbi, Naga, Arunachal and the Bhutan hills.

Topography of North-East India Towards China and other frontiers-

In fact It is towards China in one direction and from Naga hills to the hills of Manipur, the Mizo hills, the hills of Tripura. Of course it includes the hill areas of Burma in another direction. And Finally this mountain chain continues almost unbroken to the Pacific coast.

The occasional passes in the mountain chain provide the natural routes for human movements. since the early times. In fact the tribal communities in the region, according to their own traditions, had migrated to their present habitats. These include Migration from Tibet, China, Burma, Thailand and other areas in Southeast Asia. Infact this also includes migration at  different points of time under different circumstances.
