The most widely spoken language in this region is Hindi. It has official status in the states of Haryana, Himachal PradeshRajasthanUttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Understandably The same goes with  the union territory of Delhi. Punjabi has preponderance in the state of Punjab where it is the official language. It also has significant presence in the nearby regions, also. 

Dialects of Northern India-Urdu and other regional Languages as official languages-

Most importantly the Urdu enjoys official status in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh. Further north in Jammu and Kashmir, major languages are Dogri and Kashmiri.

Understandably Languages like Bengali, Bhili and Nepali are also spoken in prominent numbers throughout the region. A large part of North India constitutes Hindi Belt, which include most of the Rajasthani languages. Dialects of Western Hindi, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Garhwali and Kumaoni, are also famous.

Several Sino-Sino-Tibetan languages

Tibetan languages are spoken in the Himalayan region. These are Kinnauri, Ladakhi and Lahuli–Spiti languages. languages like Korwa/Kodaku is also spoken in some parts of this region.

The inference is very easy. The Indian sub-continent  is very large in Area. Undoubtedly it has Very Rich diversity in climate , culture and Traditions. The people speak various languages. Most Importantly some languages are some what similar while the others are to tally different. In Spite of this fact Indian maintains unity in diversity. Thereof many regional languages are termed as, ‘Regional Language for that region. Undoubtedly ,’Hindi’ is the most popular and connecting language of India.
