During th Period of Mahbhartha, the region is described as Gomantak, the fertile land ( 1000- 500 BC). However Portuguese gave, Goa, its name. Some cite it with the History of Parushram, also. On 19th Dcember, 1961, Indian Army under the operation Vijay forced the Portuguese to finally leave Goa. However in 1987,Goa finally acquired the Position of a Statehood.

The word is derived from the Sanskrit word Gurjaradesa, meaning “the Land of Gurjaras”, who ruled on this region along with Rajasthan . ( 8th Century CE to 9th CE ) till the advent of the Mughals. The Gujra was officially formed on 1st May, 1960. However the Idea was first Floated IN 1928, in a magazine, called Kumar.

Maharashtra

Rathi

The name is supposed to be first Originated from, Rathi, meaning, Chariot Driver . In 7th Century the Chinese Traveler, Huan Tsang, refeers the name. In Ancient times, it ws also called as, ‘Dandakaranya’. The State was officially formed on 1st May, 1960.

The word means the, ‘ The Land of Rajas ‘. The state was officially formed on 30th March 1949.
