When animal coronaviruses evolve and are able to infect humans, these viruses are considered to be novel.

This virus can remain alive for a period  from 12 to 72 hours on a particular medium.Their life span depends upon the medium on which they are.These viruses have the tendency of change to be able to attach to different host cells, allowing them to enter the cells of new species. Since these viruses had not been seen before in humans,These are also termed as Novel. Latin, meaning, ‘New’.

Scientists and Researchers over the world are trying their level best to Study this new virus and henceforth develop a vaccine to cure it.

COVID-19 is caused by a different coronavirus than those that cause the common cold.Most importantly Four of the seven coronaviruses typically cause mild to moderate illness in respiratory tract.They significantly account for the infection of almost 10% to 30% of upper respiratory tract in adults.The other three, including SARS-CoV-2, can cause more serious respiratory illness.At times complete failure of respiratory system causing death of the Patient, also.

Obviously the answer is yes.SARS-CoV-2 is the recent novel coronavirus responsible to cause a pandemic in today’s world, The other two were also significantly vulnerable.They were previously caused by novel influenza A viruses.Two other recent examples of novel coronaviruses are SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV.  

SARS-CoV, is the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). It is important to note that it was first reported in Asia in February 2003 . Most importantly it quickly spread to 26 countries before being contained after about 4 months. Since 2004, there have been no reported cases of SARS.  

After Almost a decade later, MERS-CoV, the virus that caused Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), emerged. It emerged in Saudi Arabia in September 2012, spreading to 27 countries. About 80% of reported cases of MERS occurred in Saudi Arabia. Only 2 people in the United States tested positive for MERS, and they both recovered.

In terms of Study of Covid19, Influenza and More Coronaviruses, What are SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and SARS-CoV (SARS), are they same ?

Though there are some similarities between SARS-CoV (SARS) and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), they differ from each other. The primary reason attributed to this difference is related to their Cause. They are caused by different viruses with different disease characteristics:-

• People who get COVID-19 appear to be able to spread the virus with a quick frequency unlike who get SARS.
• Even asymptomatic persons or those having mild symptoms of Covid19 can readily transmit the disease. While the SARS was only reported to be transmitted from people who already had symptoms.

In terms of Study of Covid19, Influenza and More Coronaviruses, What can novel viruses cause to public health?

Novel viruses as we now know are New Viruses. They are new to our system. The doctors, research person are not aware of these and such new viruses. Importantly our medication system is also unaware of the causes and their symptoms. Hence forth they are not able to medicate it. Such viruses require a very deep analytical data before developing any medicine for its cure. It’s only the analytical data through which the researchers start to prepare their antidote.

In absence of any data, analysis it becomes very difficult to even estimate the time of the delivery of the Vaccine. Undoubtedly calling for urgency of extreme caution to be followed by the Public/humans. During this time it becomes very important to not only take caution but to spread awareness, also. The role of the Public and their motivation is the best key to the solution under these circumstances. Henceforth Lockdowns are being exercised and advocated to avoid further spread of Covid19.

Since the virus is new to our body our body doesn’t have antibodies to fight against these novel coronaviruses. Unlike in case of influenza and other colds, where our body is prone to influenza and seasonal viruses. Henceforth has developed mechanism of antibody to fight against influenza and common cold.  This is definitely yet another reason which increases the requirement of precaution. Since the Cure is unavailable.
